You have set up your Shopify store and customized the design exactly to your wishes and ideas, but want to remove the "powered by Shopify" watermark in the footer of your store? We'll show you exactly how easy it is in a step-by-step guide.
We will go through some frequently used Shopify themes so that you can remove powered by Shopify as easily as possible.
Powered by Shopify remove
With the watermark, Shopify gives the stores their own branding right from the start, so that users immediately recognize in the footer that it is a Shopify store. If they then particularly like the store, there is a good chance that they will also use Shopify for their own store. So that you can really customize your store to your individual branding, we will now show you the individual places in some Shopify themes where you can remove this branding or watermark.
Dawn Theme
The Dawn theme is probably the best-known free Shopify theme. It is supplied with all new Shopify stores as a standard theme and can be installed within a few seconds. Dawn already offers many features out of the box with which you can build an appealing Shopify store in just a few steps.
Way 1: Remove texts via the standard theme
This is how you can remove powered by Shopify:
- Click on Online store -> Themes under Sales channels
- Now click on the 3 dots next to the Dawn theme and then Edit standard theme texts
- Now enter "Powered by" in the search and you should then find the text for the watermark under Checkout & system -> Links
- Simply enter a space in the field and then click on Save.
- The watermark has already been removed and is no longer visible in your footer:
Way 2: Remove in code (complete)
The second way you can remove powered by Shopify is via the code section of the Dawn theme. Don't worry, you don't need to have any programming experience!
- In the Themes section, click again on the 3 dots next to the Dawn theme and then on Edit code
- Open the footer.liquid file
- Now search for powered_by_ link in the code. If your footer file has not yet been customized, you should find this in line 356.
- Remove the line from the code and click Save in the top right-hand corner

Pro tip: If you also want to remove the copyright sign and the year, you can simply do this a few lines above. Simply remove this area from the code:

Impact Theme
The Shopify Impact theme is a very widely used theme and is known for its performance and a large number of widgets and sections. The "Powered by Shopify" watermark is also integrated into the Impact theme at the start. Find out how to remove it here:
Way 1: Remove texts via the standard theme
This is how you can remove powered by Shopify in the Impact theme:
- Click on Online store -> Themes under Sales channels
- Now click on the 3 dots next to the Impact theme and then Edit standard theme texts
- Now enter "Powered by" in the search and you should then find the text for the watermark under Checkout & system -> Links
- Simply enter a space in the field and then click on Save.
- The watermark has already been removed and is no longer visible in your footer:
Way 2: Remove in code (complete)
The second way you can remove powered by Shopify is via the code section of the Dawn theme. Don't worry, you don't need to have any programming experience here either!
- In the Themes section, click again on the 3 dots next to the Dawn theme and then on Edit code
- Open the footer.liquid file
- Now search for powered_by_ link in the code. If your footer file has not yet been customized, you should find this in line 175.
- Remove {{ powered_by_link }} from the code line.
- You have removed powered by Shopify.
Pro tip: If you also want to remove the copyright symbol and the year, simply delete the entire selected line.
